How to Boost Your Immunity

How to Boost Your Immunity

As countries are preparing to reopen economies after Covid-19 pandemic, most of us are desperately craving for ‘hugs’ and getting our lives back to some form of normality. Hats off to the amazing sacrifices made by our ‘real life heroes’ and NHS who helped us keep safe (and most importantly alive!).

While there aren’t any foods that can prevent you from contracting Coronavirus, they can certainly help you make viral symptoms less painful and keep you at your healthiest. In the UK there are no foods or drinks that are allowed to make claims that they protect against infection, if you see someone doing that, run away!

Each day, we are seeing so many people are getting COVID vaccine. The Coronavirus is still spreading across the country with new variants emerging each week. So it is absolutely crucial to mention that we must not keep our guards down and continue practicing good hygiene standards like washing your hands frequently, social distancing, using hand sanitisers, wearing masks, etc.

Food plays a key role in determining your overall health and immunity. As we continue our battle against virus, now, it is the best time to load up nutrients like vitamin A, B6, B12, C and D as well as copper, folate, iron, selenium and zinc. And NO, we are not suggesting that you start taking supplements, instead start focussing on getting those nutrients from healthy and balanced diets – e.g. from fruits, vegetables, nuts and seeds, wholegrains, dairy products and meat & fish or plant proteins.

For example, eat low carb diets, as this will help control high blood sugar and pressure. A low carb diet will help slow down diabetes and focus on a protein-rich diet to keep you in good shape. And regularly consume vegetables and fruits rich in Beta carotene, Ascorbic acid & other essential vitamins. Certain foods like mushrooms, tomato, bell pepper and green vegetables like broccoli, spinach are also good options to build resilience in the body against infections.
